A guide on using Irfan View to enhance your photos
IrfanView is one of the most popular and free to use image viewer and editor that can be used to view, edit, and manipulate images. Today, we will take a look at some of the most important features of Irfan View which can help you enhance your photos.
Open your photo in IrfanView: To open your photo in IrfanView, click on “File” in the menu bar and select “Open” or press “Ctrl+O” on your keyboard. Navigate to the location of the photo on your computer and click “Open.”
Crop your photo: If your photo has unwanted parts, you can crop it to make it more visually appealing. Click on the “Crop” icon in the toolbar or press “C” on your keyboard. Drag your mouse over the area you want to keep and release. You can adjust the selection by dragging the edges. Click “Enter” on your keyboard to apply the crop.
Resize your photo: If your photo is too big, you can resize it to make it smaller. Click on “Image” in the menu bar and select “Resize/Resample.” In the dialog box that appears, enter the new size for your photo. Make sure “Preserve aspect ratio” is checked. Click “OK” to apply the changes.
Adjust the brightness and contrast: If your photo is too dark or too bright, you can adjust the brightness and contrast to improve its appearance. Click on “Image” in the menu bar and select “Adjust Colors” and then “Brightness/Contrast.” In the dialog box that appears, move the sliders to adjust the brightness and contrast. Click “OK” to apply the changes.
Remove red-eye: If your photo has red-eye, you can remove it to make the eyes look more natural. Click on “Effects” in the menu bar and select “Red Eye Reduction.” In the dialog box that appears, click on each red eye in the photo. You can adjust the size of the circle if needed. Click “OK” to apply the changes.
Add text: If you want to add text to your photo, click on the “Text” icon in the toolbar or press “T” on your keyboard. Click on the area of the photo where you want to add text and type your text. You can adjust the font, size, color, and position of the text using the options in the toolbar.
Save your photo: Once you’re done editing your photo, click on “File” in the menu bar and select “Save As” or press “Ctrl+S” on your keyboard. Choose a file format and location to save the photo and click “Save.”
Adjusting colors: Click on “Image” in the menu bar and select “Adjust Colors” and then “Color Correction.” In the dialog box that appears, you can adjust the color balance, saturation, and gamma correction. You can also use the “Auto” button to automatically adjust the colors based on the photo.
Adding effects: Click on “Effects” in the menu bar and select from a range of options like “Sharpen,” “Blur,” “Oil Painting,” “Emboss,” and more. Each effect has its own settings that you can adjust to your liking.
Converting file formats: Click on “File” in the menu bar and select “Save As.” In the dialog box that appears, choose the file format you want to convert your photo to. IrfanView supports a wide range of file formats, including JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, and TIFF.
Removing noise: Click on “Image” in the menu bar and select “Effects” and then “Noise Reduction.” In the dialog box that appears, you can adjust the amount of noise reduction, sharpness, and contrast.
Batch processing: Click on “File” in the menu bar and select “Batch Conversion/Rename.” In the dialog box that appears, you can select multiple photos and apply the same set of edits to all of them at once. You can also rename the files and choose the output file format.
Adding watermarks: Click on “Image” in the menu bar and select “Add Overlay/Watermark.” In the dialog box that appears, you can choose the position, opacity, and text for the watermark. You can also choose to use an image as the watermark.
